WordCamp USA 2022 (WCUS), returned to in-person conference after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19. Hosted in San Diego, California, WordPress enthusiasts from across the country were excited to come back and connect with all things WordPress.

InMotion Hosting was a Bronze Sponsor for WordCamp Miami 2020. Little did we know that this would be the last conference hosted in person indefinitely.
Although WCUS 2021 was a virtual conference, we continued to show our support for the WordPress community by sponsoring the event as a Redwoods sponsor.
We believe passionately in the power of the open source community, which is why InMotion Hosting has dedicated the time of our team members to support WordPress.org initiatives and donated WordPress Foundation.
This year, we’re back at WordCamp US as a Silver Sponsor, offering travel and diversity speaker scholarships to give users the opportunity to travel to San Diego and further their knowledge of WordPress.
WordCamp USA 2022 San Diego
WordCamp US 2022 was held at the Town & Country Resort Hotel in San Diego, California. A colorful, historic, mid-century modern hotel with beautiful indoor and outdoor event spaces.
The InMotion Hosting team was excited to attend and meet other enthusiasts from the WordPress community. The team flew west from our headquarters in Virginia to showcase our current and upcoming WordPress projects.
WordCamp US 2022 had a fantastic range of diversity speakers and sessionsFrom best practices for designing your WordPress websites, to designing for accessibility, creating custom blocks, and more.
An added advantage this year was the live streaming of all sessions WordCamp USA website, free of charge, allowing users worldwide to access conference sessions. All sessions are currently available on their website.
InMotion Hosting had a seat in the Sponsor Lounge as a Silver Sponsor, where the team had the opportunity to share and further discuss our WordPress projects.
Todd Robinson, Harry Jackson and Alexandra Stoerman represented InMotion Hosting at the conference and met with WordPress enthusiasts and partners from around the country.
The team met virtuoso Discuss the ways the company is contributing to the future of WordPress, as well as their growing technology.
The team also had the pleasure of sitting down to the crossSenior Full Stack Developer, Creator Relay and Object Cache Proand a member of the WordPress performance team to discuss WordPress performance and how it will change in the coming months and years.
InMotion Hosting Travel Scholarship Winner, Anna Vela, is a front-end web developer from New Mexico focused on web accessibility and inclusive design. We were thrilled to meet him in person at WordCamp San Diego!
The team also met with other companies, including 10 up, Convesio, Seahawk Mediaand AutomaticTo further discuss how WordPress is changing as a service for users and what improvements can be made to further support its growth.

Q&A with Matt Mullenweg
Matt Mullenweg, creator of WordPress, hosted a Q&A discussing current WordPress issues and future integrations.
When asked for his thoughts on what could be improved on WordPress, Mullenweg replied:
“I’ve been thinking a lot about projects that are actually built for the long term […] One that I fell in love with is SQLite. They think the data formats will be available for decades […] A truly secure data storage format for rich data. I think [SQLite] Fits well with WordPress’ thoughts on durability.”
He also added that he wants to find a better way to engage people and get started in the WordPress community, noting that community meetings have been put on hold due to the pandemic, and expressed excitement for WordCamp US 2022. Contributor’s Day It was held on the last day of the conference.
“I think the best way to get involved in the WordPress community is usually to sit down at a laptop with someone who is involved, go at it, and learn together. […] I would love to improve doing this in a distributed way. “
When asked what he was most looking forward to as a contributor today, Mullenweg expressed that there are many simple changes that could significantly improve WordPress Core and the WordPress.org website, as well as expand multilingual capabilities.
Mullenweg reiterated that the future of WordPress is with Gutenberg, not the classic editor that many users have come to love, after being asked if there was a way to switch between the two versions.
“The preference for new development in WordPress is really focused on the block editor, so any attempt to switch edits is best done so that you don’t want to switch anymore. […] and ever [the Classic Editor plugin] It won’t be the first plugin you install.”
Other questions included his thoughts on how Metaverse and Web3 might impact the way we interact with websites, improving multilingual capabilities, and how we can continue to make web design more user-friendly for first-time designers.

WordCamp USA 2023 National Harbor
Shortly after the end of WordCamp US 2022, it was announced that WordCamp US 2023 will be held on August 23-25. National HarborMaryland.
A blog post on the official WordCamp USA website notes its focus for next year’s WordCamp as learning and creating:
Our current vision for WordCamp US 2023 focuses on learning and creating. After all, one of the greatest strengths of the WordPress community is learning from each other and creating together.
